Robot Mops and Dogs: Cleaner Tanks, Docks and Wet Floors

Match the cleaner to the robot model

iRobot publishes a model-specific list of approved solutions rather than one universal cleaner for every machine. iRobot: Model-specific approved cleaning solutions. Consult the maker of your actual robot and the product’s current instructions. A generic concentrated floor cleaner is not automatically suitable for the tank. Do not borrow a capful count from a different model, dock size or cleaner bottle; write down the combination you actually use.

Separate machine compatibility from dog access

ASPCA emphasizes using household cleaning products according to their labeled directions. ASPCA: Poisonous household products. A product that works in a machine is not meant to be drunk from its reservoir. Follow all ventilation, drying, rinsing and re-entry directions that apply to the product and surface. Do not invent a universal waiting period based only on the room no longer smelling of cleaner.

Check the dock at dog height

Look for a clean-water tank, dirty-water tank, removable detergent bottle, wet pads and any tray the dog can lick. Place the dock where refilling and draining can happen without leaving open containers beside the dog’s bed. Keep replacement bottles locked away between uses. Prepare the room before starting the schedule

Move food bowls, water bowls and loose toys away from the mopping area. Check for a pet accident or spilled product before sending the robot through it. Set a physical separation that still leaves the dog with a comfortable resting place and clean water. Do not rely on obstacle detection to establish that the dog cannot reach a puddle or pull a wet pad from the machine.

Do not improve the formula with household additives

Do not add vinegar cleaner, fragrance or essential oils unless the actual appliance and product instructions explicitly allow that exact use. For an exposure, stop the run and save the bottle, dilution information and a photo of the tank involved.
