Before buying a bed ramp, measure the height it must reach and the floor space available for both the ramp and the dog's approach. The advertised ramp length is measured along the slope, not necessarily along the floor. A product can reach the mattress yet still leave an awkward or unsupported top transition.
Record the destination in its everyday condition

Understand length without choosing a medical slope
For a straight right-triangle layout, slope length, vertical rise and horizontal run are different dimensions. As a geometry example only, a 60-inch straight ramp spanning a 24-inch rise has about 55 inches of horizontal run before accounting for landings or attachment details. That follows from the square root of 60 squared minus 24 squared.
